Experience

During the Spring and Fall of 2018 I worked with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management as an intern in the Solid Waste Section of the Land Division. While in that position I was given the opportunity to learn about all aspects of regulatory work in solid waste. I assisted with multiple landfill permits, edited new regulations, and assessed landfill violations. I enjoyed learning how to create professional relations in both a work atmosphere, and with the public. While I learned a great deal through my internship my biggest take-away was that I want to apply my future engineering degree to the edge of scientific knowledge.

In the Summer of 2019 I worked as a canoe guide for Northern Tier High Adventure Base in Atikokan, Ontario, Canada. I led crews that consisted of 2-3 adult leaders and 4-9 youth on intense trips through the Canadian Crown Lands paddling, portaging, and camping. The routes brought us to many amazing and untouched places. Trusting the training that I received was vital for my crew's survival a handful of times, and I understand that is similar to what an engineer is required to do when designing. Not only did I teach the necessary cooking, camping, and survival skills, but I also was able to share many of the concepts that I learned in my Biosystems Engineering curriculum such as soil deposition, organisms symbiosis, and environmental changes from human impact. Seeing others as they push themselves to meet the challenges of the day, watching as youth learn more about the world we inhabit, and sharing the wonders that were in front of us each day was truly rewarding. I hope to be privileged to teach others both skills and concepts again.
I have been very fortunate that I have been able to learn, volunteer and work in many different environments. I am always looking forward to the next set of skills that I can develop. Check out my resume to learn more about my experiences.
